Kamishibai story with Yr 2

Kamishibai is a great way to tell stories. Students were very engaged and loved to participate in telling the story themselves. Also it was fun to illustrate their own pictures.

BOB 2014

Our team was reading so hard and with lots of effort this year. At the end, it's not all about winning. Students enjoyed the competition. It was a great day.

Signs and symbols create by Yr 3 students for the library

Students explored the signs in the library and think about whether the existing signs were functional or not. Then they decided either to improve the existing signs or create a new one. It was a collaboration with Yr 3 signs and symbols unit.

Visual Note taking

I learnt about visual note taking in Learning 2.013 in Singapore last October and came back to school to introduce the skill to Year 2, 4 & 5. I had lots of positive feedback and looking forward to spread the skills with Year 1 and 3.
Here are some of the students' visual note from my teaching Weebly.

New school year

After a year's study, I'm more than happy to come back to my cozy library and see all the students. I feel refreshed, energetic and want to do a lot of things that I've learnt.

Today I'm trying to teach Year 1 the ABC order of our picture books. Although I only have 15 minutes, the little kids can still manage to finish arranging the alphabet cards and have some ideas of putting books back to the right shelf.

The great white man-eating shark

This is the last story I've read this year to the classes. Students love this story. It is another version of "the boy who cried wolf" and in a much interesting way. The situation is unreal but it will give kids a lot of ways to imagine.

Picture Books

Picture books are my favourite. I saw many Year 1 or 2 students were rushing to borrow chapter books or may be pushed by parents. I will encourage them to go back to picture books because there are so many things to appreciate. A short picture book can tell a concept, a situation, or some feelings very easily. There are even many published for upper grade students and that seem to be the trend.
